ZEELANDER
LOCATION: Goes, Netherlands
Zeelander is a composite portrait done with the faces of three people with a woman in traditional headdress and jewelry.
Historical images, which were available at the local museum, provided inspiration for a historical mural and aesthetic. The traditional headdresses, or ‘dutch caps’ were worn up until the 1940s, made with lace. On the side of the cap are what’s known as ‘kissers’ of pure gold. The more ornate they were, the wealthier your family was. Thus, the headdress became a well known status symbol.
